"We need to be on our "A" game against Cape Verde" - Thabang Monare

With a spot in the 2023 AFCON semi-finals up for grabs, Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabang Monare believes the only way Bafana Bafana can defeat Cape Verde in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening is if they will bring their "A" game to encounter.

The two sides meet each other after Cape Verde defeated Mauritania 1-0 in the last 16 while South Africa humbled Morocco 2-0 to book their spot in the last 8.

While a lot of the South African faithfuls are expecting Hugo Broos' charges to come out victorious against the 73rd ranked country in the world, Monare reiterated that they shouldn't underestimate Cape Verde because of its ranking in the FIFA rankings.

"There is no small team in AFCON and the past results holistically in the tournament so far have proven that, so I think the more we progress in the tournament the more it gets tough.

Cape Verde is a very tough team, we have watched their games, and they are a team willing to work hard so playing against that kind of a team, you need to be on your "A" game," Monare said.

Utility player Thapelo Morena echoed Monare's sentiment and put emphasis on proper preparation for Cape Verde.

"I think the most important thing is to focus on the new chapter we have opened, the most important thing is to go out there and grind out a positive] result.

We need to focus on the new game, try to get some more rest and we need to train well and have a good recovery," Morena added.

The match will take place at Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro Stadium, with the kick-off scheduled for 22:00 pm.
