"We are now in a great position to progress to the knockout phase" - Percy Tau

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has expressed his excitement over a possible knockout phase progression for Bafana Bafana in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

This follows Bafana Bafana's 4-0 victory over Namibia in their second group E match at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Sunday evening.

The victory saw Bafana Bafana sit comfortably at the second spot in the group aftet two matches with 3 points ahead of their final group match against Tunisia on Wednesday night.

With the group now up for grabs heading into the final encounter, the reigning CAF inter-club Player of the Year has revealed that the win against Namibia shouldn't make them get ahead of themselves but admits they are in a great position to advance to the knockout phase of the tournament.

"We will try and give everything in the final match, I don’t think this win gives us the feeling to be over the moon or to feel that we are doing great so we are still grounded.

We know that that it it can go either way against Tunisia so we don’t want to be on the out with the last game however, I know we are going to give everything and hopefully we win, play good football, take our chances to score and don’t concede, so I believe with that said we are now in a great position to progress to the knockout phase of AFCON," Tau said.

The Al Ahly forward who scored a penalty in the 4-0 hammering of Namibia also thanked his Bafana Bafana teammates for believing in him and supporting him after he missed a penalty in the opening match against Mali.

"They were disappointed because they thought I was going to score, so it was not nice when I missed the penalty in the first match because they gave me the responsibility to score and take our side into the lead.

So I wanted to rectify my mistake and when we were awarded the penalty against Namibia they once again believed in me to convert it so I didn't think twice about it and I am glad I could rectify my mistake and score a very crucial goal for my country," Tau added.

Kick-off at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium on Wednesday night is 19:00 pm.
