Water Supply restored in Johannesburg

By Neo Poho

Rand Water has confirmed the completion of its 58-hour maintenance project, stating that the water supply has been restored.

Rand Water's spokesperson Makenosi Maroo said, "We would like to thank all our stakeholders for their patience, support and understanding during this period, please note that the system will need time to recover as we recharge and fill up all the reservoirs."

While Rand Water began its maintenance project on Tuesday evening, on Thursday the 13th of July 2023, Johannesburg Water provided more than 200 water tanks and trucks to mitigate the shortage caused by the operation.

Several areas in and around Johannesburg have seen taps run dry after Rand Water embarked on repairs to three major booster stations including its facility at Eikenhof, which supplies water to multiple areas.

Rand Water has also reminded customers that because some reservoirs had run empty, high-lying areas could take several days to recover fully.

Areas in the Johannesburg South and CBD, supplied by Zwartkopjes Booster Station, will have full water capacity by Monday and areas supplied by the Eikenhof Booster Station will be fully recovered by the 24th of July 2023.
