Orlando Pirates football player Thembinkosi Lorch has been found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend.

Lorch was convicted on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday the 6th of June 2023 after a long on-going case of assault opened by his ex-girlfriend Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithiba back in September 2020.

Mathithiba opened a case on the 6th of September 2020 after they had a disagreement that led to the assault then Lorch was arrested on the 7th of September 2020 but was later released on R2000 bail, he will know his fate in July 2023 as the case was postponed for sentencing.

NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said, "Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala was visiting Lorch when he left her at his home to go out with his friend, Mathithibala saw that it was getting late and messaged him to return her car keys and on arrival, an argument ensued and Lorch became violent towards her and started to strangle her, beat her whilst pulling her up and down, shen then called for help and his friend came to her rescue."

Mjonondwane furthermore alluded that state prosecutor Ms Michele Hart argued that the medical evidence corroborated the evidence of the complainant.

“The accused did not have any injuries which meant that he was the aggressor, the  accused and his witness did not create a good impression in court and appeared to not be credible witnesses," Mjonondwane added.
