Themba Zwane: Bafana Bafana's "Rainmaker"

By Seth Moloi, Football Observer

Queen Modjadji is the hereditary queen of Balobedu tribe in Limpopo, she is a mystical and historic figure, who is believed to have special powers, she has the ability to bring rain to her allies and drought to her enemies, Bafana Bafana have their own King, with special powers, he is undoubtedly the team's rainmaker and his name is Themba Zwane.

"When Themba plays well, the team plays good," Hugo Broos.

The 34-year old midfielder has performed very well in this year's AFCON hence some say he is aging like fine wine while others say, he is the typical Benjamin Button curious case, he is aging backwards.

Match analysis form an integral part of modern football and I have no doubt that Morocco's team of analysts have already identified Themba Zwane as the main dangerman, the one who brings rain for his team.

To avoid defeat, they know they will have to stop the puppet master from pulling the strings.

Winning back-to-back Man of the Match awards consecutively in the group stages has put a target on his back and he is going to be watched closely by any opponent facing Bafana Bafana.

Looking back at the most successful Bafana Bafana team of 1996, one can highlight the fact that the team had two "rainmakers" namely Doctor Khumalo and John Moshoeu.

If the opponents bottled one rainmaker, the other one could still make it rain for the team hence the team experienced less drought during their tenure.

The problem with the current Bafana Bafana team is that there's only one "rainmaker", Themba Zwane.

What is going to happen in case the opponents conjure up a perfect plan to neutralize the only "rainmaker" in the team? Is the team going to rely on sprinklers? And are the sprinklers ready to come off when needed? Well only time will tell.
