Themba Zwane and Mamelodi Sundowns charged by the PSL

Mamelodi Sundowns and Themba Zwane have been charged by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for delaying the start of their MTN8 quarter-final fixture against Moroka Swallows last week Saturday.

Zwane held up kick-off by three minutes having moved out of the centre circle to perform a choreographed dance, which is a greeting to their fans at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

While Zwane received a yellow card for the incident, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu has summoned both the player and the team to a hearing in the coming days after throwing the rule book at the two parties.

Zwane and Sundowns will be given an opportunity to defend their actions through a written plea within the four days after the charge sheet is handed out, but it’s been made clear that the player’s actions brought the game, sponsors, the clubs, the league, SAFA, CAF and FIFA into disrepute.

Sundowns however, went on to win the match 1-0 and advanced to the MTN8 semi-finals where they will meet Kaizer Chiefs.

The Brazilians are in action against Chippa United on Saturday the 19th of August in the DStv Premiership at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
