The Proteas hammer West Indies to seal the series

The Proteas bowling attack was too strong for West Indies on the fourth day of the second Test at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg as South Africa won by 284 runs.

Starting the day in a commanding position on a hot Saturday morning, South Africa were restricted to 321 all out after West Indies had a productive 36 minutes of play in the first session.

Setting the West Indies a target of 391 runs, the Proteas bowlers eased past the opening six batsmen of the Caribbean side before lunch with Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, and Simon Harmer picking up wickets at regular intervals.

The Proteas were then dealt with a major blow just before lunch with what looked like a serious Achilles tendon injury that was sustained by left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj had the bowler stretched off in agonising pain.

Maharaj was then taken for an MRI scan to determine the nature of his injury, but it looks increasingly likely that he'll not only miss SA's limited-overs leg of the season against the West Indies and the Netherlands, but is in danger of missing out on his county spell with Middlesex.

The Proteas then immediately began where they left off after lunch as Gerald Coetzee also got in on the act claiming three wickets for 37 runs in his 8 wickets.

With no substantial partnership happening for West Indies, Joshua Da Silva and Jason Holder tried to take the fight to the Proteas however, it was a matter of too little too late as the Proteas wrapped up the innings with West Indies on 106.

The victory means the Proteas have won the 2 match series 2-0 after winning the first Test last week in Centurion.

Proteas test captain Temba Bavuma was awarded the player of the match accolade while returning batsman Aiden Markram clinched the player of the series award.

The two teams will now set their sight on the One Day International commencing on the 16th of March 2023.
