Following their progression to the 2023 AFCON last 16 stage, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has unveiled that he wants to take the South African side all the way to the final of the tournament.

Bafana Bafana advanced to the knockout phase of the tournament after finishing second in group E courtesy of a 0-0 draw in their last group match against Tunisia on Wednesday night.

"I am too happy to qualify to the next round because we had a difficult group with Tunisia, Mali and Namibia but we did well, so we begin a new competition in the next round and we are now aiming to qualify for the final because I am confident we have a very good team that can achieve that feat," Broos said.

The Belgian tactician also reflected on how his charges have grown from the past year till now.

"When I came here, I knew there was a possibility to have a good team and although it took time, we have made some significant progress and I believe we have to believe in our qualities, even though there are still some people who don’t believe however, we have quality and we are quality.

This AFCON has also shaped us because we need such tournaments to be competitive and better and excuse me, it’s not a lack of respect – but we can’t progress if we face teams like Lesotho," Broos added.

Bafana Bafana will now rest for a while before preparing for their last 16 encounter against Morocco next week Tuesday.

Kick-off at the Stade de San Pédro Stadium next week Tuesday is 22:00 pm.
