Sundowns look to hit the 40 points mark at the expense of AmaZulu

Having played 15 matches so far in the DStv Premiership, Mamelodi Sundowns' 16th match of the season in the league will see the Brazilians aim to hit the 40 points mark with either a draw or a win against AmaZulu.

Currently on 39 points, Rulani Mokwena's charges will host Usuthu at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night.

Heading into the encounter after qualifying for the Nedbank Cup last 16 and the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, Sundowns are oozing with confidence as they are still the only team in the DStv Premiership to lose a match this season.

The last time the two sides met in the league, Sundowns won 1-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on the 6th of December 2023.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu hope to have both Abubakar Mobara and Rowen Human back in the squad after both players were among several players who suffered an mysterious eye infection last week and missed their Nedbank Cup win over Royal AM.

They had a swelling in the eye which club officials suspect they picked up in a swimming pool in Cape Town where they were earlier this month for their league loss to Cape Town Spurs.

"Mobara tried his best to be available for the game against Royal AM but between the technical team and the medical staff, it was decided that for him and for the rest of the team, because those diseases are continuous, the best was to keep him out,” said coach Pablo Franco

Kick-off at Loftus Versfeld is 19:30 pm.
