Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows have advanced to the last 16 of the 2024 Nedbank Cup after defeating Crystal Lake and Platinum City Rovers in the last 32 of the tournament.

Pirates thrashed Crystal Lake 6-0 at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday afternoon while Swallows had to wait for penalties to get the better of City Rovers 3-1 at the Isak Steyl Stadium after both teams played out to a disappointing 0-0 draw in 120 minutes.

An own goal by Adam Khumalo opened the scoring for Pirates after just four minutes, three minutes later Thapelo Xoki made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Evidence Makgopa had been brought down inside the box.

It was already 3-0 inside 11 minutes when Relebohile Mofokeng put a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.

Pirates continued to dominate the game, but fluffed most of their chances.

Patrick Maswanganyi then made it 4-0 in the 33rd minute as the teams went to halftime with the Buccaneers sailing through to the last 16.

Xoki completed his brace, finding himself at the end of a corner to make it 5-0 for the Buccaneers.

Crystal Lake had a brilliant chance to score after a mistake by Xoki in the 68th minute but striker Teboho Mashego chipped the ball past the post.

Second-half substitute Tshegofatso Mabasa then got in on the action in the 79th minute, making it 6-0 for the Sea Robbers with another header following a corner.

Pirates and Swallows join fellow DStv Premiership teams (Mamelodi Sundowns, TS Galaxy, SuperSport United and AmaZulu amongst others) in the last 16 of the tournament.
