South Africa v Nigeria : Clash of the Titans

"Let the stars be named after them forever," said King Zeus referring to Perseus, the lovely Andromeda and the noble Pegasus. "As long as man shall walk the earth and search the night sky in wonder, they will remember the courage of Perseus, forever."

The semifinal between Nigeria and South Africa is one of the most anticipated matches by all fans of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, its going to take more than mere talent to win this clash, but courage guts and determination.

Both teams will be looking for their own versions of Perseus and Pegasus, players who can show courage and have their names remembered forever and the future stars named after them.

Nigeria and South Africa last met in the semifinals at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2000, with the Super Eagles running out 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from Tijani Babangida.

Nigeria have won their last four AFCON games without concedeing while South Africa have kept four consecutive clean sheets at the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time (W2 D2).

Themba Zwane has been directly involved in 50% of South Africa's goals at the AFCON 2023 (two goals, one assist), he is the man that South Africa will be looking at, to make things happen for them.

South African hopes will be on the shoulders of Zwane, the usual "Rainmaker" together with Teboho Mokoena and Ronwen Williams.

For Bafana Bafana to win, they will have to break down the 5-4-1 wall, which the Super Eagles sets up off the ball, many have tried and they have failed.

The hopes of Nigeria will solely be on the usual suspects, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon.

Heroes are born in adversity and we are waiting for heroes to emerge from this clash.
