The Special Investigating Unit investigators raided the National Lottery Commission (NLC) offices in Pretoria to action a search and seizure warrant. The raid was a joint operation between the Special Investigating Unit and the Hawks .

The SIU obtained a search and seizure warrant on Monday as part of its investigation into NLC operations. The forensic investigation and litigation is investigating maladministration  of funds in relation to the administration of state institutions, state assets and public money.

In a statement the SIU said President Cyril Ramaphosa signed Proclamation  R32 of 2020, which was published in the  Government  Gazette  in November giving a green light to the unit to  probe alleged corruption and maladministration involving the NLC.  The proclamation involves offences which took place between 1 January 2014 and the date of publication of the Proclamation, and also those  which took place before the  1st of  January 2014.
