The Proteas defeated West Indies by 6 wickets with 7 balls left in the second T20 match at SuperSport Sport Park to level the three match T20 series 1-1.

In a day where the Proteas had to win the match after losing the first T20 on Saturday by 3 wickets, Opening batsman Quinton de Kock smashed 100 runs from 44 balls as the Proteas made history by chasing down the highest score in the history of T20 cricket.

De Kock alongside Reeza Hendricks guided the Proteas to a 152 runs opening partnership before Rilee Rossouw, David Miller, Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen made sure their contributions take the Proteas over the line at a packed SuperSport Park.

Earlier on, West Indies batsman Johnson Charles took the Proteas bowlers to the cleaners, striking the sixth-fastest ton in T20 cricket.

The right-hander silenced the SuperSport Park crowd, finding the boundary on 22 occasions hitting 10 fours and 11 sixes on his way to 118 off 46 deliveries as the Windies recorded 258/5, their highest team total in a T20.

Charles along with Kyle Mayers, Romario Shepherd and Rovman Powell were the only three batsmen that contributed significant runs in the West Indies setting the Proteas that mammoth run chase.

Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers for the Proteas picking up three wickets for 52 runs in four overs while Wayne Parnell claimed 2 wickets for 43 runs in four overs too.

The successful run chase mean that the Proteas now hold the T20 and ODI world records, after their famous 438/9 chasing Australia's 434/4 at the Wanderers in 2006 in the 50-over format.

The third and final T20 match is on Tuesday at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
