Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has confirmed that the grade 1 and 8 online admissions process is officially open.

The Gauteng Department of Education furthermore stated that only parents applying for learners in these grades and those relocating from other provinces need to apply online as the closing date for the  application is the 14th of July 2023.

With Chiloane interacting and helping the parents to apply at the Winterveldt Multipurpose Hall in Pretoria, Gauteng department of education's spokesperson Steve Mabona has explained how can one apply.

"You can do it on the phone, tablet or desktop as it is quite an easy app to navigate because there are five steps, after registering your credentials, it will take you to the next step until the 5th of July 2023.

Then you will then have to upload documents and fortunately enough you have seven days to upload documents so that we can finalise the application," Mabona said.

This is the eighth year since the online admission system was introduced to schools across the province as in May, the MEC announced that the 2024 online system had been improved.

Chiloane also has alluded that the admissions would follow a single application process, which means that parents and guardians applying for grades 1 and 8 would apply at the same time and, during the placement process, offers would be issued.

While the Gauteng parents have voiced their grievances with the system after it had been too slow to place some learners before the placement deadline expired, Chiloane has reassured the parents that they would not face the same challenges as the system has been upgraded and will now handle up to 40 000 applications within a minute.

Parents who will be applying for their grade 1 and 8 children can expect SMS'es detailing the placement offers from the 4th of September 2023.
