Must win clash for the Momentum Proteas in group A

The Momentum Proteas face a mammoth task when they face Bangladesh in the 2023 T20 Women's World Cup on Tuesday night at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.

Coming from a 6 wickets loss to Australia over the weekend, the Momentum Proteas will know that nothing but a victory against Bangladesh will keep their hopes alive of reaching the semifinals of the tournament.

Having played three matches winning one and losing two in group A so far, Momentum Proteas opening batter Laura Wolvaardt is confident that the team will dominate the clash against Bangladesh from the first ball in a bid to be on the front foot from the first over.

"It is obviously going to be a tough game for us but we need to keep our heads up high because we still have a chance to qualify for the semifinals, we still have the belief that we will go through to the semifinals and potentially go all the way to win the tournament," Wolvaardt said.

The Proteas also head into the clash against Bangladesh having a positive record of 9 wins in their previous 10 encounters against the Asian side who have not won any match in the current T20 World Cup having played three matches and losing all three of them.

Wolvaardt furthermore stated that the Proteas are not feeling any pressure ahead of the encounter with Bangladesh because the home support has helped them to cope with the pressure throughout the tournament.

"I don't think there is added pressure on our side because the home crowd has helped us a bit, it has been incredible to be out there with the atmosphere we have received at some of these games, to have thousands of people cheering when we are scoring runs and taking wickets has been helpful," Wolvaardt added.

The last time the Proteas played at the Newlands Cricket Ground they lost against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the T20 World Cup due to the lack of batting partnerships up front and in the middle order of the batting line.

Although that is the case, history doesn't seem to be a true reflection of what might happen in the next fixture of any sporting event and Wolvaardt is adamant that the Proteas have fixed their mistakes and they will stick to their plans and execute them in a bid to get the desired result against Bangladesh.

In another T20 World Cup encounter on Tuesday, England will take on Pakistan in a group B encounter that will be played at the Newlands Cricket Ground in the afternoon.

England head into the clash against Pakistan sitting at the summit of group B on 6 points while Pakistan needing the victory against England are occupying the 4th spot after three matches.
