Momentum Proteas look to bounce back

The Momentum Proteas are desperately seeking for a victory in the 2023 T20 Women's World Cup after losing their opening match against Sri Lanka on Friday night.

Chasing 130 for victory, the Proteas came short by 3 runs after the middle order collapsed cheaply due to the powerful bowling attack of Sri Lanka.

Proteas Vice Captain Chloe Tryon insists the team will bounce against New Zealand on Monday night as they look to go back to basics in their approach for the New Zealand match.

"The loss against Sri Lanka was a setback especially in the opening match because the first match is always the game that sets the tone for the remaining matches however, we have recovered and I am adamant that we will do out best against New Zealand," Tryon said.

The match against New Zealand is an important one for both sides as New Zealand also lost their opening match against Australia in Group A on Saturday.

Having being set 174 for victory by Australia, New Zealand were only restricted to 76 runs in 14 overs as Australia won by 97 runs.

Tryon furthermore mentioned the importance of the home crowd coming out in numbers to support the team, "Its always good to play in front of your family and friends and make everyone proud, we really want to win and grow women's cricket in the country and with the support of the fans during the games we can achieve the feat," Tryon concluded.

The match at Boland Park in Paarl will start at 19:00 with the Momentum Proteas facing Australia on the 18th of February and finish the group stage matches with Bangladesh on the 21st of February.
