Makhehlene Makhaula set to return to training

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has been allowed to resume training in the coming days after he had to be substituted and rushed to hospital in their 4-0 victory against Hungry Lions in the Nedbank Cup last 16 over the past weekend.
Makhaula was complaining about chest pains and shortness of breath just before half-time in Pirates’ Nedbank Cup clash, leading to paramedics medics rushing him to hospital.
However, Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro had already confirmed during Monday’s Nedbank Cup draw that the midfielder is much better.
“He is alright, of course what happened was scary and it was a difficult moment but in the end it was not as bad as it looked initially.
“Right now, he is much better and he is going to get another assessment from the doctors on Tuesday the 19th of March 2024 and hopefully he can start working normally with the team this week," Riveiro said.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Pirates stated that Makhaula has been cleared to return to training on Wednesday.
“Orlando Pirates can confirm that midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has been given the all-clear to resume training in the coming days, following his early withdrawal from the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 fixture against Hungry Lions at Orlando Stadium.
The 34-year-old had to be stretchered off the field just before halftime on Saturday after complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath and he was treated by the club's medical team with assistance from the medics and promptly transferred to Milpark Hospital for further medical treatment.
All necessary investigations have been conducted, and the player has since been discharged after consultation with a specialist and Makhaula is scheduled to return to training on Wednesday the 20th of March 2024 following assessment from the Pirates Medical Team," the club stated.
The Sea Robbers will face AmaZulu in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Nedbank Cup after the two were drawn against each other on Monday evening.
