The lethal midfielder joins the Brazilians having been with Stellenbosch FC for three seasons after joining the Winelands side in 2021.

On Monday, the 3rd of July 2023, Stellenbosch FC confirmed the player’s exit after he penned a four-year deal with Masandawana.

“Júnior Mendieta has completed a permanent transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns and the club would like to thank him for his immense contributions over the last three seasons and wish him well in the next chapter of his career," the statement read.

Immediately after Stellenbosch's statement, Sundowns confirmed the signing reiterating that Mendieta becomes the second official signing of the team after having already signed Lesiba Nku from Marumo Gallants.
