Speaking during his visit to his former academy, Limpopo Sports School of Excellence in Polokwane on Thursday the 20th of July 2023, Mailula reiterated that everything he has learned about football is from Mamelodi Sundowns.

I am grateful for everything that I learned at Mamelodi Sundowns more especially on how to be a great human being and respect other people, that's one thing that I will always be grateful for, I also want to thank the fans for helping me to be the person that I am, I will surely miss them," Mailula said.

Having being promoted to the first team of the Brazilians in 2022, Mailula scored 15 goals and provided four assists in all competitions.

The youngster also walked away with the 2022/23 PSL Young Player of the Season award during the 2022/23 PSL Awards.

Although the Bafana Bafana international was skeptical about confirming his move to Toronto FC as yet, he sees the opportunity to play in MLS as a stepping stone to grow his career.

So it’s just for me to take this opportunity and grab it with both hands and to also go there and work hard, I cannot skip a lot of counties to go there and play around, I have to know that I am respecting the country and my family and this will be good for me to grow and to challenge myself," Mailula added.
