Following their qualification to the 2023 AFCON quarterfinals by virtue of defeating Morocco, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has revealed his admiration at his team's growth since their defeat to Mali in their opening match of group E.

While there was some criticism about Broos and his squad selection for the current AFCON tournament, the Belgian tactician reiterated that he knew what he was doing when he selected his squad for the tournament.

"Well obviously we needed some time to make the team, there was also a lot of criticism in South Africa because of the choices that I made but I once again I knew what I was doing," Broos said.

Broos, who is also impressed with how Bafana Bafana have progressed in the tournament after losing their first match to Mali.

"I said at the beginning of the tournament that it is important to grow and I think the team is now growing, we played against Mali, we lost, we beat Namibia, drew in a very difficult game against Tunisia and now we have defeated Morocco to qualify for the last 8.

This can only mean one thing, we are getting better and better and we are also growing stronger and this is something I am happy about, we are playing as a team and have players who can make a difference like the likes of Teboho Mokoena and Evidence Makgopa," Broos added.

Bafana Bafana will now turn their attention to another crucial encounter against Cape Verde on Saturday evening with a spot in the semifinals of the tournament up for grabs.
