Bafana Bafana take aim at Morocco

Bafana Bafana will be making their bid to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) when they face Morocco in the 2023 AFCON last 16 tie at the San Pedro Stadium on Tuesday night.

Having qualified for the round of 16 by virtue of finishing second in group E after Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos believes that if they can beat Morocco, the team will have a path to the final of the tournament.

“If we beat Morocco then we know we have a big chance to play in the final and I don’t want to underestimate Cape Verde or Mauritania but there's a difference from playing those teams than against a side that we are playing on Tuesday," Broos said.

Meanwhile Bafana Bafana vice-captain Percy Tau has revealed that he believes the last 16 clash against Morocco will be better than the group stage matches as they would have gotten enough time to recover from fatigue.

"We always try our best to recover as much as possible but then fatigue is a big fight we always have to go against however, we have been trying our best to overcome it and I think we are now in a good position to face Morocco at this stage of the tournament," Tau added.

Although Bafana Bafana managed to defeat Morocco last year in an international friendly at the FNB Stadium, Tau has conceded that the round of 16 encounter will be a total different match altogether.

"The game that we played in South Africa against Morocco is totally different to the one we are going to have on Tuesday evening.

I mean it’s the last 16 so they will try and do everything to win the game and then we will also try to win it because we want to progress further in the tournament," Tau added.

Kick-off at the San Pedro Stadium on Tuesday night is 22:00 pm.
