Ahead of the much anticipated 2020 AFCON semifinal clash against Nigeria, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is confident his charges will defeat the Super Eagles and qualify for the final of the tournament.

Broos is bidding for a second AFCON title after leading Cameroon to the winners’ medal in 2017, and he faced a barrage of questions from journalists in the press conference on Tuesday the 6th of February reminding him about previous clashes against Nigeria.

"We know and understand who we are up against, we know the might of this team and that their players play all over Europe and we also know that the last time in an AFCON what the result was, but this time it’s different, it's different players, a different team and a different AFCON so anything is possible.

We are very happy and motivated that we are going to play in the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON, for many people, it was unexpected but we did it and ensure South Africa become a good team and also it’s more than 20 years ago that South Africa played in the semi-finals and even more than that we played in the finals, so what that means is that we have a lot of motivation," Broos said.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has revealed that the unity within the team is what gives them the confidence and advantage heading into the semifinals of the tournament.

"I think the edge is within the unity, the togetherness, the fighting spirit within the group, I think we have been with this group for almost two years now and we believe in ourselves and believe in our capabilities," Sibisi said.

Bafana Bafana head into the encounter with Thapelo Maseko after he sustained a hamstring injury during their quarterfinal clash against Cape Verde on Saturday evening.

Kick-off at the Stade Bouake Stadium on Wednesday night is 19:00 pm.
