The Section 194 inquiry into Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office resumed once again today, with the much-anticipated testimony of Bianca Mvuyana. Mvuyana, who had been supposed to testify as a witness for the past few weeks, took to the stand to give her insight into Mkhwebane’s work.

Bianca Mvuyana took to the stand as a witness in Parliament’s Section 194 inquiry into Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office. In what was her first appearance, Mvuyana gave harrowing evidence of which she name-dropped the Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan.

Mvuyana, who is a Public Protector investigator, spoke of the existence of a so-called “rogue unit”, of which evidence can prove that Gordhan was involved in its establishment.

According to Mvuyana, Gordhan was a key actor in the investigation she was conducting on the unit, of which it has been accused of illegally gathering undercover intelligence, adding that he should appear before the inquiry as well.

The evidence in question was presented in a report by Mkhwebane regarding the early retirement payout of Ivan Pillay, who is the former SARS deputy commissioner, whilst Gordhan was the SARS commissioner.

Gordhan had challenged findings in court which saw the report set aside.

Despite Gordhan alleging that the suspended Public Protector, used her position to fight political battles. Mvuyana expressed that Mkhwebane was not involved in the investigation in question.
