The competition which is part of the global FIFAe Nations Series 2023 where FIFA member associations select their national teams to qualify for the nation vs nation finals in June 2023, includes the South Africa Football Association which has been participating since 2019.

The competition started on the 4th of February  2023 with two online qualifiers culminating with the best 16 FIFA23 players and FIFA rankings in South Africa battling it out.

With the competitors producing some feisty encounters in the grand finals that saw four groups of four with Africa's number 1 Kaylan Moodley, Thabo Moloi, Julio Bianchi and April all from Goliath Gaming, and Ubaid Mahomed, Aqil Sampath and the Orlando Pirates duo of Aidan Bouah and Riaasat Ebrahim making the quarterfinals.

With April on song in the quarterfinals, the South African defeated teammate Moloi in the semifinals to meet Moodley in the final.

After a every tough encounter, April eventually found his rhythm and got the better of Moodley to win the crown without losing a match.

In his post match interview April who is now the new SAFA eCup champion expressed his delight and joy to have won the tournament unbeaten.

"I am super happy because I actually had a poor tournament but I managed to pick myself up and get my game on again, I am also happy that I managed to beat all the players that made it to the top 4 even though it's not always good to beat your teammates but at the end of the day that's how a competition goes," April said.

April who has also taken the win as a big confidence booster going into other tournaments furthermore said, "The victory is also a testament that my performance is still high and I can still compete against the best players so I am super proud of myself."

April's side will be competing in the FIFAe Nations Online Qualifiers on the 13th of April 2023 in the Africa-Middle-East region, joining Ghana, Morocco, Egypt and Kenya as African representatives in the FIFA23 Playstation competition.

The 19 year old also thanked SAFA for hosting the tournament as well as his family and teammates for always showing him ways on how to get better in his game.
