Xoki returns for Pirates while Olisa Ndah is still sidelined

Orlando Pirates have received a major boost ahead of their DSTV Premiership clash against TS Galaxy on Sunday afternoon at the Mbombela Stadium with the return of defender Tapelo Xoki.

Xoki sat out during Pirates' 2-1 victory against Cape Town City last week Saturday at the Orlando Stadium with the defender not recovering in time for the clash after picking up a knock deep inside extra time during Pirates' Nedbank Cup victory against Dondol Stars in Polokwane a fortnight ago.

The former AmaZulu defender has been a rock solid at the back for the Buccaneers forming a formidable defense team with Nkosinathi Sibisi and captain Innocent Maela.

Having made 24 appearances for Pirates in all competitions this season, Xoki also helped the side clinch the MTN 8 title last year against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium putting on a stellar performance against his former employers.

He has also played a crucial role in leading the Buccaneers to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals against Kaizer Chiefs, featuring in every Nedbank Cup match Pirates has played this season.

His return from injury might see Jose Riveiro and his technical team make a couple of adjustments at the back against TS Galaxy as Xoki returns with a wealth of experience and leadership.

The 28 year old will also be aiming at helping his side finish the league strong as the quest for the CAF Champions League spot still continues for the Buccaneers, meanwhile, Nigerian international Olisa Ndah is still out of action due to a knee injury and Thembinkosi Lorch also remains a doubtful starter for Riveiro's side on Sunday.

With Pirates set to play Royal AM on the 3rd of May 2023 and Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup semi-final on the 6th of May, Vincent Pule and striker Ndumiso Mabena are expected to be back at full training during the course of the week after both were sidelined by knee injuries.

Kick-off at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday is at 15:00 o'clock.
