The 46th edition of South Africa's annual soccer cup competition the MTN8 made its debut this past weekend. The championship features the top eight teams of the Premier Soccer League at the end of the
2019–20 season.
SuperSport United vs Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila
Defending champions SuperSport United became the first team to secure their spot in the MTN8 semifinals winning 3-2 against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
Goals from Bradley Grobler, Iqraam Rayners and Gamphani Lungu led Matsatsantsa to victory. Mogakolodi Ngele scored a brace for the Limpopo club.
Orlando Pirates vs Cape Town City
Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City got their 2020/21 PSL campaign underway on Sunday evening at the Orlando Stadium when they met in the MTN8. A goal on debut from Terrence Dzvukamanja's goal is all Pirates needed to earn thier spot in the Semi Finals, where they are to battle it all out against Amakhosi . Orlando Pirates won 1-0 over Cape Town City.
Kaizer Chiefs vs Maritzburg United
Gavin Hunt led Kaizer Chiefs to victory at the FNB stadium on Sunday afternoon. Amakhosi got off to a winning start bagging a 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United.
Mamelodi Sundowns vs Bloemfontein Celtics
As the Brazillians made their debut on the MTN8 on Sunday evening ,the New Head coaches Rhulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi were under great scrutiny following the departure of Sundown's coach Pitso Mosimane. Unfortunately the odds were not in Sundowns favour as they lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtics.
