"We needed that victory" - Jose Riveiro

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has described Pirates' 2-0 victory against Cape Town City on Tuesday evening as a much needed win after the Soweto giants last played a league match two weeks ago.

Zakhele Lepasa continued with his brilliant form in-front of goal as he netted his third league goal of the season before Patrick Maswanganyi sealed the victory in the second half with his first league goal of the season in the black and white colours of the Buccaneers.

With Pirates last tasting victory in the league on the 8th of August against Royal AM, Riveiro believes the win against Eric Tinkler's men came at the right time.

"First of all I am so happy with the three points because we really wanted to collect three points as it has been a long period without playing in the league, so we really wanted to do it today for us, for our fans as well, in front of an excellent team.

It was a bit difficult for us in the second half, taking risks in the pressing, we couldn't get rid of that in the right way and our second goal was really necessary to calm the game a bit because they were pressing in pursuit of getting an equaliser," Riveiro said.

With Maswanganyi becoming a force to be reckoned with for the Sea Robbers, Riveiro reiterated that the former SuperSport United man is a quality player.

"Well we have a lot of quality in our forwards department especially with Patrick Maswanganyi, he has a very educated foot and he knows his role and position very well so I am pleased with his form so far," Riveiro added.

Pirates will now turn their attention to the MTN8 as they prepare to take on Stellenbosch FC in the first leg of the 2nd semi-final on Sunday afternoon at Athlone Stadium.
