"We need to be aggressive" - Pep Guardiola

Manchester City head to Germany with a 3-0 lead from last week’s first leg encounter of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich knowing that a goal or two at the Allianz Arena will settle the tie in their favour.

Goals by Rodri, Bernado Silva and Erling Haaland saw the citizens hand new coach at Bayern, Thomas Tuchel a humiliating defeat on his return to England having coached Chelsea before going to Bayern Munich.

With a lot still at stake in the second leg, Pep Guardiola wants his team to be 'aggressive' against Bayern on Wednesday night in order to neutralise any possible comeback from the German side.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the encounter Guardiola said, "We have to go there and be aggressive so that we can win the game because I know Bayern will not be backing down so this is the mindset that I have and I would like to put that in the minds of my players too."

Even though City hold a 3-0 aggregate lead, Guardiola believes the tie is not as yet settled as there's still a long way to go.

"We have to work hard and be mentally stable in our bad moments, we will watch the first leg again and see what we can do better and prevent the good things they can do and try to win the game.

We obviously also need a lot of energy for the encounter but that energy comes from how mentally prepared are we against a top Bayern side," Guardiola said.

City will also want to keep their good run of form in all competitions after hammering Leicester City 3-1 over the past weekend in the English Premier League to keep the pressure on log leaders Arsenal.

The gap at the top of the table is now just four points, with City having a game in hand and Arsenal coming to face them in Manchester on the 26th of April 2023.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has admitted that his side will need a miracle to overcome City in the second leg.

Tuchel, who replaced the sacked Julian Nagelsmann during the March international break, was pleased with what he saw from his team in the first leg despite the scoreline.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Tuchel said, "We need a wonder, in-fact a miracle to overturn the 3-0 deficit, the good thing is that we believe in ourselves and if we can manage to play a good first half then we can make it happen.

In football everything and anything is possible so we will go there and fight to win, we have our fans who will be ready to fight with us and then we need to have a realistic level of approaching the tie," Tuchel said.

Tuchel will also be pleased to have Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting back in the team after he missed the first leg last week due to injury.

In another mouth-watering clash on Wednesday night, Inter Milan will welcome Benfica at the San Siro in the second leg of the quarter-final clash, the side from Italy head into the encounter with a 2-0 aggregate lead.
