Kaizer Chiefs football manager has revealed that head coach Arthur Zwane is on the right track in his first season as Kaizer Chiefs' coach.

Amid concerns and criticism from some of Kaizer Chiefs' fans over the past couple of months about Zwane's future at Chiefs, Motaung has reiterated that Zwane needs more time to continue reconstructing the club.

"We have assembled a new team with a new coach and technical team so we need to give him time and be patient with how he is trying to build the team," Motaung said.

In his first season at the helm, Zwane has managed to lead the side to the Nedbank Cup semi-final after beating Royal AM 2-1 in the quarter-finals on Sunday the 16th of April 2023.

Zwane has also managed to defeat Orlando Pirates twice in the DSTV Premiership, achieving the feat through back-to-back 1-0 victories last year in October and also late in February 2023.

With Kaizer Chiefs also in contention for a CAF Champions League spot in the 2023/24 season, Motaung believes Zwane has done quite well and with time Chiefs will bring back the glory days.

"Zwane is on the right track and we need to allow him to build on what he has started, we believe in him that's why we have him here, it's as simple as that.

I think we believed in him, and we have to help him and build the team with him, it’s about the future, I mean if you look at the team it’s a young team and we can only can help him and support him with any support system that he needs or technical support, we’ll support him," Motaung added.

Motaung also alluded that the future is extremely bright and exciting at Naturena because of the squad Zwane has assembled, "our football is certainly exciting now and even though some of our youngsters have not adapted to the style of Chiefs, coach Zwane is helping them mature and develop because he understands our culture."

Meanwhile, Zwane was impressed with the way his side played against Royal AM in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup, Amakhosi had to wait for extra-time to seal the victory and Zwane hailed the mental strength of his team despite fatigue kicking in.

"I can’t fault the effort of my players, they came here with only one thing on their minds and they wanted to go through to the semi-finals, I am actually proud of the attitude they showed today and the hunger, dedication and discipline, that's all we needed,” Zwane said.

Amakhosi next face Sekhukhune United in the DSTV Premiership on Sunday the 23rd of April at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, kick-off in that encounter is 15:00.
