"We are very proud of him" - Ronwen Williams

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams has revealed that Percy Tau's success will inspire a lot of players within the South African football landscape.

This comes after Tau won his second CAF Champions League gold medal with Al Ahly on Sunday.

The victory saw Tau become the only South African player to have two CAF Champions League gold medals having already won it with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

Tau was also one of the key players for Ahly this season helping the Egyptian giants clinch a record 11th Champions League title.

With a combined total of ten goal contributions throughout the tournament, the former Sundowns star raised his hand for the potential player of the tournament award and Williams is backing him to win the accolade.

"We are very happy to see Percy doing well and we obviously missed him at Bafana when he was going through his injury issues, we are also happy to have a fully fit Percy Tau because on his day he is a game-changer and a match winner.

So we are happy for him and we have congratulated him as well, hopefully he can come this week and have a brilliant game for us," Williams said.

Amid the celebratory mood Tau has gotten the South African football fraternity in, Williams also insists that Tau's success is a step in the right direction to inspire Bafana Bafana to do well against Morocco in the upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifier.

"Playing at that level is highly important because you get to experience the tactics they use and there’s a lot that comes with playing in Africa," Williams added.

Kick-off at the FNB Stadium on Saturday the 17th of June is 17:30.
