Having joined Kaizer Chiefs from 1999 in the development team, Khune was promoted to the senior team in 2004 and ever since then, the Ventersdorp born player has never looked back.

In his 19 years at Kaizer Chiefs, Khune has made 266 appearances and also went on to scoop a couple of notable awards both in the country and club level.

Amid a lot question marks around his future at Chiefs due to not getting enough game time recently in the league, Motaung has cleared the air on Khune's future for now.

"We are still in discussions on whether we will offer him[Khune] a new long-term contract or not, so until then no other official decision has been reached," Motaung said.

With only 11 appearances in all competitions this season, Khune has seen goalkeeper Brandon Peterson take up the number one spot under Arthur Zwane with Bruce Bvuma also in the mix.

With the 35 year old's contract set to expire on the 30th of June 2023, Amakhosi head coach Arthur Zwane has also weighed on the future of Khune at the club.

"Khune remains a big part of the club and he is obviously a very important member of the club too, so this means that we need him as he also provides a huge influence of encouragement and support to the players at large," Zwane said.

Meanwhile, Motaung has also hinted that Amakhosi are set to reveal some 'great' news concerning the latest developments around new signees at the club.

"We will make an announcement in the future concerning some of the great things that are yet to be revealed at the club as we have started to work on strengthening our squad for next season," Motaung added.

Amakhosi will now shift their focus on the DSTV Premiership on Sunday as they travel to the Peter Mokaba Stadium for a date with Sekhukhune United, kick-off in that encounter is 15:00.
