Another big sporting weekend is on the horizon as the Nedbank Cup continues while the T20 Women's Cricket World Cup commences and the Six Nations intensifies, with that said, here is what you can look forward to this weekend.

1.Maritzburg United welcome Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup last 32.

Kaizer Chiefs embark on a quest for another important opportunity of lifting a trophy this season when they travel to KwaZulu-Natal to face Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup on Friday evening.

With Chiefs not having won any silverware in 8 years, head coach Arthur Zwane knows how important the encounter is for his side to start the quest for a silverware on a good note.

Zwane knows that the league title is already out of their reach and with the MTN 8 also having been won by fellow Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, the Nedbank Cup is the only remaining piece of silverware for the Glamour Boys to attain.

Both Maritzburg and Chiefs head into this clash at the back of disappointing results in the DSTV Premiership with the Team of choice playing 1-1 with AmaZulu last week Friday while Chiefs were held 0-0 by TS Galaxy on Sunday.

At a sold out Harry Gwala Stadium, the encounter is expected to produce fireworks because it is a knockout fixture where if the sides will play a draw after 90 minutes the match will go to extra time and if it is still is draw after extra time then penalties will decide the outcome of the encounter.

Kick-Off on Friday evening is at 19:30.

2.Mamelodi Sundowns hosts Al-Hilal in the CAF Champions League.

Fresh from qualifying for the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after defeating Richards Bay 3-2 in the last 32 on Tuesday night, Mamelodi Sundowns will turn their attention to continental football for a while.

The Brazilians will start their campaign of the 2023 CAF Champions League by hosting Al-Hilal in group B on Saturday afternoon at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

In a group described as the group of death, Sundowns will play against Al Ahly, Al-Hilal and Cotton Sport with the first two top teams advancing to the next round of the competition after they would have all played against each other in the group stages.

Head coach Rhulani Mokwena will hope that the current fantastic form his side has shown in the DSTV Premiership will be translated to continental duties.

Sundowns are currently sitting at the top of the DSTV Premiership table with 55 points after 21 matches and leading second place SuperSport United by 23 points.

Mokwena will also hope that midfield maestro Themba Zwane will be ready and available for selection after Zwane suffered a knock in the 1-0 league victory over Orlando Pirates last week Saturday.

After their Champions League clash against Al Hilal on Saturday, Sundowns will travel to Cameroon for a confrontation with Coton Sport on the 17th of February at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Kick-Off on Saturday is at 15:00.

3.Momentum Proteas play Sri Lanka in the T20 Women's Cricket World Cup.

The 8th edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup will commence on Friday the 10th of February at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.

Hosts South Africa will welcome Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tournament, the Momentum Proteas head into the clash at the back of a six wickets win over Pakistan in their final warm-up match at Boland Park in Paarl on Wednesday.

Despite Australia being the favourites to clinch the T20 World Cup, Momentum Proteas opener Laura Wolvaardt has stated that they will look to use the home ground advantage and the support of the fans to win the tournament.

"The preparations have been great and productive, we are ready and raring to go for the World Cup, we believe that we can go all the way and make our country proud," Wolvaardt said.

Proteas legend Makhaya Ntini has also backed the Momentum Proteas to do well in the World Cup, "It is truly a special time for South Africa and Africa to be hosting their first ICC Women's T20 World Cup, we have a good squad in the Momentum Proteas that can compete and go all the way in the tournament," said Ntini.

The T20 World Cup will see 10 countries(Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Namibia, Ireland, Bangladesh and West Indies) go at each other from the 10th of February until the 26th of February 2023.

4.SA20 Final.

The stage has been set for the final of the first Betway SA20 cricket tournament, it has been been a month since 6 teams from different provinces and regions locked horns and started to face off against each other in the first of its kind cricket tournament.

With runs being hit all over the boundaries and wickets taken by both fast and spin bowlers, the fans have certainly been in for a treat in the past month.

Speaking about fans being in for a treat, the SA20 Final also promises to be a feisty encounter that will see favourites Pretoria Capitals battle with Sunrises Eastern Cape.

The side from Pretoria progressed to the final of the tournament after defeating the Paarl Royals by 29 runs in the first semifinal on Wednesday night at the Wanderers Stadium.

The Capitals who also finished as the table leaders on 32 points will look to their hero at the Wanderers Rilee Rossouw to put on another incredible performance on Saturday in the final.

Rossouw who hit 56 runs that took the match away from the Royals, admitted that the well-worn cricket truism of "form being temporary and class being permanent" is a cliche but one that's applicable to him.

The Capitals also have Colin Ingram, Marco Marais and Theinus de Bruyn who can also swing the final encounter into their favour against a very resilient side.

Meanwhile fresh from dumping out the Joburg Super Kings in the second semifinal, Sunrises Eastern Cape had Aiden Markram to thank for his outstanding century of just 58 as the side from Eastern Cape won the encounter by 14 runs.

Although the Super Kings tried to fight back with Reeza Hendricks leading the attack it wasn't to be for Faf Du Plessis' side who had a horrible match after being bowled out with the first ball of the second innings.

With the SA20 league having been a thrill to watch, the final between the Pretoria Capitals and the Sunrises Eastern Cape surely promises to be a an exciting final.

5.The Six Nations continues.

Round 2 of the Six Nations will see Ireland welcome France at the Aviva Stadium with both sides looking to record their second consecutive victories after claiming wins in the first round.

Ireland hammered Wales 34-10 while France edged Italy 29-24 in what was a very closely contested fixture.

In the second match of the day on Saturday, Scotland will hope that their victory against England last week was not a fluke as they welcome Wales at the Murrayfield Stadium.

Wales who themselves need the victory after going down to Ireland last week will hope to record their first victory of the campaign while it is still early to avoid having to catch up on the leading pack.

With head coach Steve Borthwick mentioning that England have learned from their mistakes after going down last week against Scotland, Twickenham is in for a treat as England will seek to redeem themselves against Italy on Sunday.

Both teams head into the clash at the back of defeats to Scotland and France respectively and England will look to continue with their dominance over the Italian team.

Whether it is football, Cricket or Rugby the second weekend of February will certainly have you on the edge of your seat either you are watching from home or at the venue.
