"This is the Percy Tau that I like" - Hugo Broos

Ahead of the must win group K AFCON qualifier against Liberia on Friday night, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is delighted with Al Ahly's Percy Tau's level of play.

Having spend the past four days with Tau at the Bafana Bafana camp, Broos cannot stop but to commend Tau for coming back so strong after struggling with injuries that put him off in recent times.

It goes without saying that Tau's return to his incredible scoring form at Al Ahly came just at the right time when Bafana would need him to convert all the important goals in a bid to overcome Liberia.

Tau's five goals and two assists in just 18 matches played so far this season is the reason why Broos has made some delightful remarks about the former Club Brugge forward.

Speaking at the press conference on Thursday afternoon, Broos said, "Percy is fresh again, I see it in training. Before last year it was like he had 50 kgs on both legs but now you can see he is fresh and he makes action."

With the 28 year old also having struggled to win Al Ahly's huge and demanding support base due to some poor form in 2021, the talisman has had a far better 2023 for the Egyptian giants including an exceptional performance in Al Ahly's 5-2 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League on the 11th of March 2023.

"Percy is gradually getting back to his level best of football, for me against Sundowns he was the best player for his team. This is the Percy Tau I like, that I know from Belgium and in my honest opinion he is feeling good and I am happy that he is also scoring goals," Broos added.

Tau will look to continue with his great run in front of goal alongside Lyle Foster, Monnapule Saleng and Cassius Mailula as Broos' charges need to win at the Orlando Stadium on Friday night and at-least draw in the reverse fixture.

The reverse fixture will be played on Tuesday the 28th of March at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Liberia.

Kick-off in that encounter is at 18:00.
