There's hope at the end of tunnel, as Eskom de-escalates load shedding

Load shedding has been de-escalulated for this weekend. This following Eskom's announcement explaining that announced that load shedding would alternate between stages one and two on Saturday and be suspended on Sunday.

Following what has been the least power cuts this year, Eskom has announced that South Africans an celebrate once more this weekend.

This is as the country will remain at stage two until 5am on Saturday morning, and thereafter it would be reduced to stage one until 4pm in the afternoon. According to the utility, rolling blackouts will then be suspended on Sunday morning, until 4pm that afternoon.

Eskom has expressed that this is due to three generating units had been returned to service in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramogopa has given an update in the visits he has had in nations' power stations. 

According to Ramokgopa, the ultimate goal is to become less reliant on open-cycle gas turbine (OCGT) power stations such as Ankerli, which produces 1,327 megawatts of power.

He further expressed his intentions to ensure that OCGT power plants serve as backups, adding that this would happen when coal-fired power stations had been improved.
