"The upcoming Soweto Derby will surely be different" - Arthur Zwane

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has revealed some of the reasons why the Kaizer Chiefs technical team, players and management were excited after finding out Amakhosi will meet Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs were drawn against their arch-rivals immediately after defeating Royal AM 2-1 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday night in the fourth and final quarter-final match of the Nedbank Cup.

The two teams have already met before in the league with Amakhosi claiming all the bragging rights by winning both of the league encounters 1-0 and Zwane believes the upcoming Soweto derby will be totally different.

"Firstly I think the excitement from our management, technical staff, players and even our fans comes from knowing that we are playing Pirates that is also doing well so far, so that will be good for South African football as we are also finding our way up," Zwane said.

With Chiefs looking to claim another victory over their arch-rivals this season, Zwane reiterated that it is not going to be an easy derby.

"It's not going to be easy at all because this one is a cup game and cup matches are different from the league matches, but as I have said before we will treat every game with respect understanding that this Soweto derby has a lot at stake.

"I also think this Soweto derby will be a good one to watch because with cup matches the approach is very different, there's no time to play mind games, you have to go fully in and score goals as a team to win, so if we want to beat Pirates again we will have to be on top of them," Zwane added.

Pirates advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament after beating ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars 5-4 on penalties in the first quarter-final match on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the last time the two sides met in the Nedbank Cup was during the 2015/16 season when Pirates came out victorious courtesy of a Tendai Ndoro brace in the first round of the tournament.

The second semi-final will see Stellenbosch FC face off against Sekhukhune United, the two teams advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United 2-1 respectively.

Dates, venues and times for the semi-finals of the tournament will be confirmed at a later stage by the PSL.
