"The team is going through a restructuring phase" Brian Baloyi

Kaizer Chiefs Legend Brian Baloyi has mentioned that Chiefs' victory against Royal AM last week happened at the right time.

Amakhosi won 2-0 against Royal AM at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last week Sunday when Sifiso Hlanti and Ashely Du Preez scored in the 60th and 85th minute respectively.

Speaking to Baloyi ahead of the Chiefs' clash against TS Galaxy on Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium, the former Amakhosi goalkeeper described the victory as an important one at the right time.

"The win against Royal AM was firstly convincing but most importantly it was an important victory, it was a victory that came at the right time considering the way the team started the year with back-to-back losses," Baloyi said.

Despite a halt in proceedings in the first half, Chiefs’ rhythm and determination remained undisturbed as they continued to dominate the game when the match finally commenced again and Baloyi was pleased to see Amakhosi finally break the hoodoo against the Durban based side.

"It was good to see Chiefs finally defeat Royal AM for the first time since Royal has been defeating Amakhosi for the longest time now and that had to end, so beating Royal AM in front of the home crowd was a great confidence booster ahead of the Galaxy game," Baloyi added.

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane who was also pleased with the result made five changes that saw captain Itumeleng Khune and regular defender Zitha Kwinika being dropped to the bench.

Zwane then later said the team had been playing very well and unfortunately when they look at the goals that they have conceded, they were individual errors, not team mistakes.

With Khune turning 36 years this year, Baloyi has backed the former Bafana Bafana number 1 to be influential in the Chiefs camp especially when he gets to be dropped to the bench.

"Khune is a great goalkeeper and a brilliant player whether he is in the starting XI or not but reality is Chiefs need to start preparing for life after Khune and he also needs to understand that he should show more of his personality because he is an influential player, on or off the pitch Khune is vocal and that's what he need to do more often for the youngsters to be guided in the right path," Baloyi added.

The Chiefs legend also stood by Kwinika stating that football is a sport of mistakes and when mistakes are done they get to be identified and corrected, so Kwinika should not be too hard on himself.

With TS Galaxy next for Amakhosi, Baloyi stated that new signee Christian Saile might be the difference for Chiefs to get the desired result.

"I think he is a good player although I need to see more of him, for me he is more of a winger than your usual striker however I think he will be influential if anything is to go by in the Galaxy encounter"

Amakhosi who travel to the Mbombela Stadium having not won a match against Galaxy in the last four encounters in all competitions also have a concerning list of injuries.

The Glamour Boys might be without fullbacks Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons who both suffered injuries during the victory against Royal AM, the club also disclosed that Nkosingiphile Ngcobo was missing due to an injury and it is unclear whether he will he available for selection this weekend.

Frosler, Solomons and Ngcobo add on the injury list that already has Eric Mathoho, Cole Alexander and Khama Billiat.

With Kick-off being at 15:30, fans are urged to arrive early in numbers as the encounter promises to be an exciting one.
