Springbok Women's team face Canada in Madrid

The Louis Koen tenure at the Springbok women's team begins with two tough tests against Spain and Canada on Saturday the 25th of March and the 1st of April respectively.

The two tests will be played at the Estadio Nacional de la Universidad Complutense in Madrid and Koen will look to use these tests to build the experience levels within the team, especially of the younger talent, and give the players a taste of international competition.

With Koen naming four debutants in their match day squad for Saturday’s Test match against Canada, a mixture of both the experienced and inexperienced will form part of Koen's system in approaching the two clashes.

The four debutants that Koen has named are Mary Zulu, Shaunique Hess, Danelle Lochner and Byrhandré Dolf and the former Springboks player believes all four new players will have a specific role to play in the squad.

"Mary has a good rugby brain and kicks well, so I am excited to see how she goes against a quality Canadian side. Shanique has a very good skills set, she was on the radar for a while and I am excited to see her in action again," Koen said.

Nolusindiso Booi will continue as the team captain while key players Nomawethu Mabenge, Libbie Janse van Rensburg, Tayla Kinsey, Aseza Hele, Catha Jacobs and Babalwa Latsha will all be in the starting lineup for the Canada encounter.

Meanwhile Lochner will become a dual international when she makes her Test debut having previously represented the Proteas netball team as a goal shooter between 2016 and 2019.

Kick-off at the Estadio Nacional de la Universidad Complutense on Saturday is at 16:00.
