Sifiso Hlanti's future at Chiefs uncertain

Sifiso Hlanti's agent Sizwe Ntshangase has confirmed that the defender is still waiting
for Kaizer Chiefs to have a discussion with him concerning the possibility of a contract extension.

Hlanti's return to Amakhosi from a long term injury has been outstanding this season with the former Bidvest Wits defender making 25 appearances in all competitions for the Glamour Boys and also going on to score three goals in the process.

Having signed for Amakhosi in 2021 from Swallows FC, Hlanti will be out of contract in the next two months as his contract with the Glamour Boys expires in June 2023 however, Chiefs have the option to extend the defender's contract with one more year.

Amid questions on whether Chiefs' will extend Hlanti's contract or not, the 32 year old's agent has revealed that Chiefs is yet to communicate with Hlanti.

"We have not had any discussions with Chiefs at the moment because we are waiting for them to decide whether they will exercise the option to extend Hlanti's contract or not," Ntshangase said.

Ntshangase furthermore alluded that he is optimistic Chiefs will contact him soon enough to confirm the contract's extension.

"We believe Chiets will contact us anytime because we are not waiting for June until the contract expires," Ntshangase added.

Meanwhile, earlier on during the year Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane described Hlanti as an important player in the Chiefs camp.

"Well Sifiso is one of our senior players that forms a huge part of our squad, he is also a leader in the team and someone the youngsters can look up to.

"He has matured over the years and you can also tell with his style of play that he is a disciplined player and I believe some of the players can learn a thing or two from him." Zwane said.

Hlanti who has been able to consistently cement his spot in Chiefs' left back role will look to help his side clinch the Nedbank Cup after Amakhosi qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.

Hlanti will also be influential in making sure
Chiefs will fight till the end to secure a CAF Champions League spot for next season in their remaining five DSTV Premiership matches.

Chiefs next entertain Sekhukhune United in the DSTV Premiership on Sunday the 23rd of April 2023 at the Peter Mokaba stadium, kick-off in that encounter is at 15:00.
