Should Zakhele Lepasa return to Pirates or not ?

By Neo Poho

Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa has enjoyed some good run of form in his loan stint at SuperSport United so far.

Lepasa joined SuperSport United in January on a six months loan deal after struggling for game time at Pirates and now with the deal about to come to an end amid the closure of the league, the question remains should Lepasa go back to Pirates or not ?

With Lepasa getting some game time and scoring goals for Matsatsantsa a Pitori, its highly justifiable that he should stay at SuperSport.

The 26 year old can be a great asset for Gavin Hunt who is still in the process of building a formidable and competitive squad that will be one of the title contenders in the seasons to come.

Already occupying the second spot in the league so far, SuperSport will be aiming to finish the league on a high note and finish second to obtain the CAF Champions League spot.

Going to CAF Champions League with someone like Lepasa up front will be a major boost for Hunt as he has the experience of playing in Africa, just recently Lepasa helped Bafana Bafana qualify to the AFCON 2023 by scoring a crucial goal against Liberia in Monrovia.

The former TS Galaxy player moved to SuperSport from Pirates due to lack of game time and with Pirates already having numerous forwards in their squad, returning back to the Soweto giants might see history repeating itself for the lanky striker.

Meanwhile, SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has mentioned SuperSport would like to retain all of their loan players however, with Lepasa an agreement has not been reached as yet.

"We are going to make every effort to retain our loan players but with Lepasa, it was never discussed to keep him. I asked for a short-term loan because I felt we were a bit shy upfront," Matthews said.

Alongside Bradley Grobler, Mamour Niang and possibly Thamsanqa Gabuza if he doesn't leave SuperSport at the end of the season, Lepasa is the perfect fitting puzzle for Hunt's side that needs a mobile striker who can be versatile and move off the big man and that person is Lepasa.

SuperSport United are away to Chippa United when the league resumes on the 1st of April and Lepasa will be aiming to continue with his fine form in that match and the remaining six encounters afterwards.
