Sekgota's agent talks about the midfielder's future at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Kgaogelo Sekgota's agent Bally Smart has broken the silence about the midfielder's future at Naturena.

With Sekgota starting the league as a regular in the gold and black colours of Amakhosi, the winger has since struggled to make the starting line-up over the past few months for Chiefs being an unused substitute six times in the last seven matches in all competitions for Amakhosi.

The last time Sekgota was in the starting lineup for Chiefs was on the 23rd of October 2022 when Amakhosi played out to a 0-0 draw against AmaZulu in the second leg of the MTN 8 semi-finals.

Despite his contract ending next season, the 25 year old will have some work to do in his final term at Naturena to convince the technical team and management of Amakhosi to extend his contract at the club.

However, amid all the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club and the lack of game time he has been experiencing lately, Smart has came to his client's rescue alluding that Sekgota is working hard for his starting XI position in the team.

"Every season is important and playing for a club like Kaizer Chiefs will always have its own expectations, the period when Sekgota was a regular player in the starting XI, I think it was influenced by the fact that he was doing well.

Lack of game time has obviously disrupted his form and progress but as I said, he is working hard to fight for his spot in the team," Smart said.

Sekgota's regular playing time during the beginning of the season also saw him receive a Bafana Bafana call up when they played international friendly matches against Botswana, Mozambique and Angola last year.

With Amakhosi still in the hunt for a CAF Champions League spot and also the Nedbank Cup triumph, Smart has reiterated that Sekgota wants to win some silverware with Chiefs and help the club achieve its desired goals.

"He wants to help the club win some silverware and contribute to the club's success so Chiefs should have him in their future plans," Smart added.

Sekgota will be hoping to get some playing time in the remaining four matches of the 2022/23 season as Chiefs will play against Chippa United on the 27th of April before welcoming Swallows FC on the 1st of May 2023.

The Glamour Boys also have a date with arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on the 6th of May in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals before they conclude their league campaign with fixtures against SuperSport United and Cape Town City.
