South African under-23 men's national team coach David Notoane is confident his team will get the much needed goals in a bid to have the upper hand in the under-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers clash against Congo.

The two teams will face off against each other at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Thursday afternoon before concluding the two-legged affair on Monday in Brazzaville looking to secure a spot for the TotalEnergies Under-23 AFCON.

The TotalEnergies under-23 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from the 24th of June until the 8th of July this year and Notoane and his charges have been putting in the work at training this week preparing for the qualifiers encounter against Congo.

Notoane believes the 23-man squad he has selected for the two legged matches will get the job done however, he also emphasised on the team scoring goals especially in the first leg at home to have the upper hand going to Brazzaville on Monday.

"Well for me as a coach I am kind of spoiled because we have a really good and strong team upfront so it looks like any combination that we can put upfront will get the job done, what's important is that we need goals and we need to score goals especially in the first leg of the encounter," Notoane said.

Kaizer Chiefs' rising star Mduduzi Shabalala will lead the attacking force of the side as he is one of the deadly players up front for Notoane alongside Thapelo Maseko and Boitumelo Radiopane.

With a very strong midfield presence of Kgaugelo Chauke, Ethan Brooks and Devin Titus, Notoane is anticipating a good first leg that will enable the team to take a comfortable lead going to Brazzaville.

"We obviously have a very talented team with a lot of depth and I am happy with the progress I have seen so far at the training camp,  I am equally happy with the outlook of the team in terms of what we are trying to put together so it's all systems go ahead of a very difficult opponent on Thursday," Notoane added.

With the TotalEnergies under-23 Africa Cup of Nations being a qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics where the top three nations will automatically book their ticket to Paris, Notoane and co. will be keen on qualifying for AFCON and going all the way to finish among the top three nations in the tournament.

Kick-off at the Dobsonville Stadium on Thursday afternoon is at 15:00.
