In his first season back at Orlando Pirates from a season's loan at Swallows FC, Saleng acknowledged that he struggled to adapt and understand what coach Riveiro wanted from him initially, as he just joined the club during the off season.

That saw Saleng being demoted to the bench more often until October 2022 when he scored a brace against Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership match that was followed by another brace against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN 8 semi-final.

Ever since then, the Bafana Bafana international never looked back as he went on to lead Pirates clinch the MTN 8 final against AmaZulu scoring the solitary goal in the 1-0 victory.

Having won the MTN 8 Last Man Standing accolade and the DStv Premiership Players' Player award during the 2022/23 PSL Awards, Saleng sent a message of gratitude to his coach and club chairman Dr. Khoza.

So I am so happy for him and happy for the chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza for believing in me and the senior players who helped me y pushing me to see my actual potential," Saleng said.

The North West born ended the 2022/23 campaign with 15 goals in 30 games in all competitions, along with 11 assists in the process.

Having also helped the Buccaneers to secure the 2023/24 CAF Champions Legaue spot by finishing second on the log, Saleng furthermore alluded that he is honoured to have served Pirates with diligence during the just ended season.

"I will forever be grateful for how my season went at Pirates and its really an honour to serve and get recognised, I pushed myself because I did extra training sessions and I think that helped my season because since I have been playing in October, it has been for the whole season non-stop," Saleng added.
