SA among 5 other nations in the bid to host 2025 AFCON

CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced that South Africa, Algeria, Benin, Morocco, Nigeria and Zambia are all in a bid to replace Guinea and host the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

Guinea withdrew from hosting the tournament last year after little progress had been made in preparing for the 35th edition of the biennial event.

Hosting the AFCON is something that South Africa is very familiar with having hosted the tournament twice before, in 1996 going all the way to win it, much to the delight of all South Africans and also in 2013 unfortunately finishing in the quarter-finals.

CAF officials will do inspection tours of all the candidates this month and the winner(s) are set to be announced on the 10th of February 2023.

Motsepe said after the inspection, the successful country or countries would offer the best hotel, transport, logistics, hotels and beautiful stadiums.

Benin and Nigeria are in West Africa, as too is Ivory Coast, who will host the 2023 Cup of Nations.
