Region A Welcomes Spring With Sweat-Inducing Aerobics Class.

Hello spring! The weather has warmed up and more people are going out. Region A recently hosted an aerobics class next to Lord Khanyile Community Hall in Ivory Park as part of welcoming spring. The calorie-burning session forms part of healthy lifestyle activities that the City of Joburg’s Sport and Recreation has on embarked city wide.

Aerobic is a fun activity and is documented by researchers as one of the most popular activities at the City of Joburg’s recreation centres. It’s enjoyed by the young and old. Studies have also shown that an exercise programme like aerobics plays an important role in preventing injuries and shows tremendous benefits to one’s health. It improves mobility, cardiovascular fitness, and arm and hand function.

Mandla Mahlangu, the Assistant Director for Sport and Recreation in Region A, was pleased about the keen interest showed by the community irrespective of Covid-19 restrictions.

“I am delighted that our sport and recreation facilities are used by the community to promote social cohesion and nation building, and this is what we got to see today. To date, we have seen once more our aerobics gaining momentum and young people being attracted to it. The event was a success and an indication that aerobics is a tremendous activity,” said Mahlangu.

Enoch Mosiea, the Project Manager, said frequent exercise was a winner all round. “Improving the physical fitness of the community members makes them feel good about themselves. As you sow, you shall reap. I believe participants will perform daily life tasks more effectively and without fatigue and combat depression.”
