Premier's Social Cohesion Games 2022 launch

Gauteng Premier David Makhura will on Friday, 30 October launch the fourth edition of the Premier’s Social Cohesion Games. 


The annual games, are meant to promote social cohesion, nation- building and mobilise residents and communities against racism and xenophobia in the Gauteng province. 


The games have grown over the years and will, for the first time, feature five sporting codes: Football, Rugby, Cricket, Chess and Netball. They will be played in various facilities across the seven regions of Gauteng from Saturday 1 October 1 to Sunday 2 October. 


Premier Makhura will attend the games where teams made up of more than 4500 participants from various nationalities will take part. The games will demonstrate the diversity of South Africa and co-existence with residents of different backgrounds and nationalities. 


A team of “gogos”: women over 60s will be one of the prominent features at the games. 


“Sport can play a powerful role as a unifier for South Africans and Africans from all over the continent, to come together to celebrate and solidify a common identity and shared humanity,” he added. 


The Premier’s Social Cohesion Games serve as a powerful platform for ordinary citizens, sports legends, civil society, and business to contribute to the fight against racism and xenophobia.
