Police in Gauteng mobilise resources amid the deaths of two children in Soweto

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has expressed that the Gauteng Commissioner of police, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, has mobilised police resources. This following news of the murder of two children in Soweto, who were found yesterday.

Residents of Soweto are still shocked following the news of the murder of two children aged between five and six. The pair were reported missing on Wednesday evening, 19 April 2023 at the Moroka police station and were found mutilated yesterday.

According to the police, the bodies of the children wer discovered in White City and Rockville respectively.

"It is so disheartening and disgraceful to see such little innocent lives being lost in this hideous manner. It cannot be that no one saw or heard nothing. We are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident to please report to the police,"

Mawela has since condemned this gruesome act, and has urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, Geuteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi visited the homes of the affected families alongside education MEC in the province, Matome Chiloane and MEC of Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko.

The officials paid their respects to the family, with Lesufi referring to the incident as "sick", adding that support will be given to the family.

Community members within Soweto have since been left in shock, with many fearful that an incident of this nature will happen again.
