Pirates held by Chippa United

Orlando Pirates dropped points in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday evening as they played out to a 1-1 draw against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Pirates broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Relebohile Mofokeng found goalscorer Bandile Shandu unmarked in the box to send the crowd into a frenzy at a packed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The Buccaneers dominated large parts of the first half but didn’t create too many clear-cut chances as the home side only looked dangerous on the counter but didn’t finish their transition attacks well.

Pirates lost a bit of control in the second half and they were punished for taking the foot of the gas, as loanee Goodman Mosele scored a screamer to equalise for Chippa United.

Zakhele Lepasa had a shot at goal in the 78th minute, but Stanley Nwabali saved his effort as l Chippa United also had late chances with Mosele seeing his shot go over the cross-bar with ten minutes to go, and a last-ditch Makheleni Makhaula tackle stopped a good run from another former Pirates player, Augustine Mulenga.

The result sees Pirates move to fourth place on the log, with four points from three games.
