Paseka Mako sets his target on the CAF Champions League

Orlando Pirates defender Paseka Mako has expressed his desire to play in the CAF Champions League next season.

This follows Orlando Pirates' 2-0 victory over Chippa United on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Two first half goals from Kabelo Dlamini and Thembinkosi Lorch helped Pirates get the much needed victory to leapfrog SuperSport United who initially were second on the table after winning their encounter the previous day.

With five matches remaining in the DSTV Premiership this season, Pirates are in the driving seat to secure the runners up spot ahead of SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs, and Mako has described that as one of the his ambitions.

"We really played well against Chippa United and we came into the match wanting to win in order to cement our place in the top two and we did that, so that's a major boost for us.

"In as much as the team wants to qualify for the CAF Champions League and play continental football next season, it's equally my dream too to play in the CAF Champions League hence I will continue to help my team to do well and fight until the end," Mako said.

The 29 year old who has made 23 appearances for Pirates this season was very pleased with his performance against Chippa United that earned him the man of the match accolade.

"I am very happy with my performance, it was a much higher-paced performance that allowed me to be very rapid in going forward and creating spaces upfield which saw me set-up Lorch for the second goal.

Alluding on the difficulty of playing the last few matches of the DSTV Premiership against relegation threatened teams, Mako describes it as a challenging experience.

"It's very difficult to play against a relegation threatened team especially during the time when the league is approaching its closure because other teams are playing for their lives while others are playing for contracts, so it's really not easy that's why we were patient in our build-ups and maintained a positive mindset," Mako added.

Mako and his teammates will now shift their focus to the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup on Saturday against Dondol Stars at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, kick-off in that is at 15:00.
