After leading Orlando Pirates to their second consecutive domestic cup final over the past weekend, Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has claimed the April coach of the month accolade in the DStv Premiership monthly awards.

Riveiro, who started his first season in South Africa's top-flight football like a house on fire, is closing it on a high note too, as he led the Buccaneers to five victories in all competitions during the month of April.

The Spaniard also made sure that Pirates are still in contention for the CAF Champions League spot as the Buccaneers are currently sitting second on the log with 50 points after 28 matches with two more games remaining.

Riveiro has now won the coach of the month accolade for the second time as he first won it  last year in August, the 47 year old mentor received 100% of the votes from the judging panel made up of football media, commentators and analysts.

With Pirates already winning the MTN 8 cup last year, Riveiro is also a major contender for the coach of the season accolade in the 2022/23 DStv campaign and a victory against Sekhukhune United in the final of the Nedbank Cup would boost his chances of claiming the big award.

Pirates next face Sekhukhune United on the 13th of May in a DStv Premiership clash before meeting with AmaZulu in the final fixture of the season.

Immediately after concluding the season in KZN, the Buccaneers will return to Gauteng for round two against Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium however, this time R7 million will be up for grabs as the winner will be crowned the 2023 Nedbank Cup champions.

Meanwhile, for his incredible performance throughout the month of April, Iqraam Rayners has won the player of the month award in the DStv Premiership monthly awards respectively.

Rayners scored four goals in April to take his goalscoring tally to 15 goals in all competitions for Stellenbosch FC and the 27 year old is now also in contention for the Golden Boot award trailing top goalscorer Peter Shalulile by two goals.
