Sibisi who joined Pirates this season has enjoyed his tenure so far in the black and white colours of the Buccaneers, winning the MTN 8 title and also helping the team advance to the Nedbank Cup final.

With the league about to be wrapped up on the 20th of May 2023, Sibisi is adamant that despite players like Tebogo Mokoena and Ronwen Williams being favourites to claim the PSL player of the season crown, his teammate Monnapule Saleng deserves the accolade more than the Sundowns duo.

I think he has been brilliant for us, he has been scoring goals, he provides assists and he has also been working hard on and off the pitch so I personally think he deserves it, that’s my honest opinion," Sibisi said.

Saleng has been exceptional for Pirates this season scoring 14 goals and providing five assists in his 27 appearances in all competitions.

The 25 year old Bafana Bafana international also led Pirates to the MTN 8 title scoring the solitary goal in the final against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Despite having a rather slow start during the beginning of the campaign, Saleng has also gone forth to be a fan favourite in the Pirates squad.

The left footed winger will hope to increase his chances of claiming the prestigious award by helping the Buccaneers finish second on the log to ultimately qualify for the CAF Champions League spot next season.

Moreover Saleng will also be keen on winning another domestic title as Pirates face Sekhukhune United in the final of the Nedbank Cup on the 27th of May at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Should Saleng win the 2022/23 PSL player of the year award, he would be the fourth player from Orlando Pirates to win the crown after Mbulelo Mabizela in 2002/03, Teko Modise in 2008/09 as well as 2009/10 and Thembinkosi Lorch in 2018/19.

Pirates next face Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership on the 13th of May at the Orlando Stadium before concluding the season with a trip to Durban for a date with AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 20th of May 2023.
